As a kid Khadija was fascinated by the Captain Planet – an environmental superhero – a cartoon show that championed saving the environment and mitigating pollution. She followed up on environmental causes through her early years eventually completed a degree in environmental sciences and later in Sustainable Development from University of Exeter, UK.

Khadija is an environmental specialist with core expertise and qualification in environmental sustainability. She has worked in areas of environmental and social impact assessment processes, environmental laws and policies including international best practice and environmental safeguards such as the World Bank, International Finance Corporation and Asian Development Bank. Khadija has contributed to multi-themed development projects through technical support, research and development, project management, and capacity building by means of trainings, workshops, conferences, mentorship programmes and stakeholder engagement.

Khadija has also worked in higher education and is passionate about helping students unlock their potential and take steps towards career and education goals. As a community builder with a commitment to make connections, Khadija effectively guides, advise and support a diverse population of students and young professionals.

In her free time, Khadija loves to read and bake. She runs a book club and a bookstagram account where she shares her love of reading and Chai! She is known for the best birthday chocolate cakes, brownies and banana bread!

As a first-generation Canadian, Saba grew up with the desire to pursue a career in life sciences – sustainability and environmental stewardship were not familiar to her. It wasn’t until her last years of highschool – and the encouragement and inspiration of one of her teachers – that she realized the importance environmental sustainability played to the health and well-being of everyone around the world.

Saba is a graduate of the University of Waterloo’s Environment and Business program. After completing her undergrad, she went on to pursue a certificate in Project Management at the University of Toronto’s School of Continuing Studies. More recently, she has completed courses related to community-based social marketing, a diploma in corporate social responsibility, and training to engage with communities around climate action. She is currently pursuing an executive certificate in environmental, social, and governance.

As a Co-Founder of EnviroMuslims, Saba strongly believes that the Muslim community should be leading climate action initiatives. This is especially true considering the magnified impacts of climate change on people of color and vulnerable communities. Sustainability to her goes beyond caring for the natural environment: it is an issue of social justice, equality and inclusion.

Samia is an electrical engineer with demonstrated experience in sustainable energy, electricity grids, and engineering design. Samia is currently working for Electric Power Engineers, where she executes power system studies to connect renewable technologies to the grid. Samia serves on the Board of Directors of The Starfish Canada, empowering young environmental leaders. She has served as the Chair of the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Student Branch Chapter. Samia is one of Canada's Top 25 Environmentalists Under 25 and Top 30 Under 30 Sustainability Leaders. She enjoys thrill rides, green spaces, good food and company.

Sania is an Environmental Systems Engineering student with a focus on environmental sustainability at the University of Regina. Beyond her academic pursuits, she actively contributes as a Global Ambassador for WomenTech Network, organizing virtual celebrations for women in engineering and science. In addition, she initiates and manages project collaborations with external organizations as a member of the Engineers Without Borders Chapter. She enjoys collecting succulents, engaging in art and painting, and playing volleyball with friends, which complements her well-rounded personality and commitment to creating a positive impact in her field.

Faizan has 10 years of waste reduction, diversion and sustainable materials management (SSM) experience in North America. He has completed a Masters of Science in Sustainability Management from the University of Toronto and is currently working as a Sustainability Manager for Mattamy Homes. His responsibilities include improving waste diversion for each construction project, reducing the amount of carbon in construction processes and homes built and engaging staff and consumers on sustainability. Faizan is very enthusiastic about waste and recycling and tries to help others to do better for the environment.

Sarah is a 20-year-old Chinese-Bengali living on Treaty 4 Territory – colonially known as Regina, and is the traditional and unceded homelands of the Nêhiyawak (Plains Cree), the Anihšināpēk (Salteaux), the Nakoda, Dakota, Lakota and the Métis/Michif Nation. 

Growing up, Sarah’s love and fascination for nature led her to learn about the climate crisis at a very young age, leading her to take small actions like cleaning up litter in her neighborhood. Her concern about climate change led her to develop career interests in environmental science and sustainability and she is now an undergraduate student studying Geography & Environmental Studies at the University of Regina. As part of Enviro Muslims’ Saskatchewan Team, she is working on empowering Muslims in her community to embed sustainability in their lives, and to build a more intersectional climate movement where BIPOC and Islamic perspectives play a crucial role in tackling climate change. Sarah is a climate activist with Regina Energy Transition where she advocates for accessible public transit and an equitable path towards reaching net-zero emissions. She is also a research assistant and writes about climate reparations with Muslims Climate Watch. In her own time, she enjoys swimming, graphic design, and cooking up a good traditional Asian meal!

Zeenat holds an MEd from the University of Alberta and an MBA from Western Carolina University with 8 years in Operations at Tor Land Resource Inc. Currently serving as Manager, Operations & Records at Enviro Muslims and doubling as Project Coordinator for BootCamps, she blends academic knowledge with practical experience to make a positive impact. Zeenat believes, "The power to shape a sustainable future lies in our hands."
